To: NSW Premier Barry O'Farrell, Minister for Planning and Infrastructure Brad Hazzard and Minister for Resources and Energy Chris Hartcher

Stop acts of terrorism against the people of the Lismore Local Government area.

Stop acts of terrorism against the people of the Lismore Local Government area.

Exploration and production of Coal Seam Gas in the Lismore Local Government area is clearly against the wishes of 87% of the area polled by Government poll declared on 15/9/12. We assert that continuing to explore the possibilities of CSG amounts to an act of intimidation of the public to advance the political and ideological causes of the persons named above and that this act has the possibility of causing death, serious harm or endangerment to persons, serious damage to property and serious risks to the health and safety of the public. Such acts begin to approach terrorism against the people of Lismore.

Why is this important?

Our Local Government Poll results show 87% of people residing in the Lismore Local Government area oppose coal seam gas mining in the Lismore Local Government area. We believe the strongarming of Brad Hazzard, Chris Hartcher and Barry O'Farrell in relation to Coal Seam Gas mining in the Lismore Local Goverment area readily adheres to the definition of a 'terrorist act' as defined by the Criminal Code Act 1995.

A ‘terrorist act’ is an act, or a threat to commit an act, that is done with the intention to coerce or influence the public or any government by intimidation to advance a political, religious or ideological cause, and the act causes:
1. death, serious harm or endangers a person
2. serious damage to property
3. a serious risk to the health or safety of the public, or
4. seriously interferes with, disrupts or destroys critical infrastructure such as a telecommunications or electricity network.
A terrorist act does not cover engaging in advocacy, protest, dissent or industrial action where a person does not have the intention to urge force or violence or cause harm to others. If found guilty of committing a terrorist act, a person could face up to life imprisonment.

As there are numerous documented cases of public harm, destruction of property and serious risk to health and safety caused by the Coal Seam Gas industry worldwide we believe this strongarming is commensurate with a terrorist act and wish to have Brad Hazzard, Chris Hartcher and Barry O'Farrell investigated for these acts.

  • I support this petition to stop the poisoning of the ground and waterways that CSG mining would have created.
