Lower the Woolworths 16 Story Twin Towers on Vaughan TCE North Melbourne - RAiD 3051!

Lower the Woolworths 16 Story Twin Towers on Vaughan TCE North Melbourne - RAiD 3051!

We would like The Honorable Minister to reject the scheme or reduce the scale and intensity of the Woolworths' proposed 16 Story Twin Towers and Supermarket for the corner of Vaughan Tce & Canning St, North Melbourne. Residents feel the proposal is not of the appropriate level of intensity of development for the limited footprint of the site. There has been too little consideration given to the integration of such a proposed development and to the combined concerns of residents and Melbourne City Council about height, air rights, traffic management, social services and the impact of extended liquor trading on the low income residents and the men's hostels that characterise the neighborhood.

Why is this important?

North Melbourne has been ear-marked for intensive development by the State Government and the Melbourne City Council Arden Macaulay Plan. It is important that the first development complies with the goals and spirit of the plan. Residents and Melbourne City Council have concerns about height, air rights, traffic management, social services and the impact of extended liquor trading on the low income residents and the men's hostels that characterise the neighborhood. It is important that the residents have a voice and that the hard work of the councillors in developing a structure plan in the interests of all the citizens is respected rather than being overrun by cashed-up developers. The needs of all parties need to be addressed in any proposal and this one ignores the views of all except the developers'.

Reasons for signing

  • Your wrong lady because our IGA Does not open enough hours and it would be a pressure to have a 24 hour supermarket and bottle shop and shops and better shops
  • I signed like a bawss
  • I have lived in North Melbourne for over 10 years and have seen many changes. What I love about North Melbourne is its community atmosphere which could be irrevocably changed by irresponsible high density development. I think the proposal is too high. I also would not like to see a late night bottle shop in the area.
