Don't Frack the Outback - Injune Qld

Don't Frack the Outback - Injune Qld

Dear Sir

The following is my submission re Australia Pacific LNG Pty Limited Application to Vary Environmental Authority EPPG00787513 as advertised in the Balonne Beacon on July 11, 2019.

Firstly I would like to state that I vehemently oppose the approval of this amendment to allow drilling and fracking of 940 wells. Fracking even one well is too many. Drilling more wells when the climate is in crisis and Australia faces no shortage of gas if it was reserved from exports is not necessary, economically wise, or morally sound. I oppose on climate grounds.

• I object because the fracking process uses vast amounts of precious water that is needed both now and in future times of drought and it will cause drawdowns in groundwater levels (UWIR Draft 2019);
• I object because of the large volumes of salt and other waste, including fracking waste that will be disposed of in the Injune area;
• I object because documents relating to the application were not available in Injune;
• I object because of the health impacts from fugitive emissions and fracking chemicals and the company has provided no conclusive evidence it is safe;
• I object because there has been no Environmental Impact Study that looks at the impact of fracking 940 wells and the cumulative impacts with other gas/oil/petroleum projects current and planned in the area;
• I object that radioactive tracers will be used and that restricted fracking chemicals which are ‘commercial in confidence’ will be approved for use;
• I object that leftover fracking chemicals will be hardened and spread as rubble on the well pads;
• I object that wells will be 750m apart as this will destroy the amenity of the area;
• I object because fracking workers may be at risk of explosions;
• I object because fracking is an abuse of human rights (Permanent People’s Tribunal Advisory Opinion, April 2019);
• I object because of proximity to Carnarvon Gorge National Park;
• I object to wells being drilled and fracked in the Howe and Forrest State Forests;
• I object that native flora and fauna will be impacted; especially that native animals may experience stress;
• I object that neighbouring property values will be negatively impacted;
• I object that neighbouring property owners will not be compensated for impacts;
• I object because there is no Independent monitoring of the fracking procedure;
• I object because fracking has been banned under the precautionary principal in several countries and Australia should instigate a ban too;
• I object because rehabilitation measures allow for infrastructure to remain beneath the ground forever and that future generations will have the expense of remediating problems caused by subsidence, decay and leaks;
• I object because 97-99% of climate scientists agree that greenhouse emissions must be radically reduced in the short term and methane is 30 times more potent than Co2; and
• I object because fracking has negative cultural impacts to ‘Country’.

You will find more useful information in the following link, https:/www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentary_Business/Committees/Senate/Gasmining/Gasmining/Submissions
and I respectfully ask that you read and consider the entirety of the submission made by the late George Bender’s (RIP) daughter, Helen Bender.

Thank you for taking the time to consider my application and I look forward to hearing the outcome in due course.

Sincerely

Why is this important?

When people visit the Outback they expect to see wildlife, trees and wide open spaces. Not gas wells. This project allows multinational companies to drill and frack 940 wells on farms, in State Forests, right near Carnarvon National Park. Fracking even one well is too many. Drilling more wells when the climate is in crisis and Australia faces no shortage of gas if it was reserved from exports is not necessary, economically wise, or morally sound. This acts as a submission opposing Australia Pacific LNG application to vary Environmental Authority EPPG00787513.

Reasons for signing

  • Stop letting foreign interest ruin our country.
  • We only got ONE WORLD!
  • Fracking is not a good enviromental action. Once fracked there is no going back.
