Dear Mayor Jamieson,
Could you please review the decision to scrap the Sunshine Coast Council Professional Lifeguard Service and its 46 years of invaluable experience.
The Sunshine Coast Council Professional Lifeguard Service has been scrapped, handing responsibility of beach safety over to a volunteer organisation Surf Lifesaving Queensland & its commercial arm ALS. This will result in a decrease in safety standards, primarily due to the loss of highly experienced, career professional Lifeguards. This will not result in cost savings to the community, but will in fact reduce the quality of this service and compromise public safety. It is apparent that the decision to scrap the Sunshine Coast Council Professional Lifeguard Service was based on heavily biased information, without adequate representation of the in-house service. This has resulted in an unbalanced presentation to Councillors and has been totally void of an open and competitive process.
We plan to deliver the petition directly to Mayor Mark Jamieson. Stay tuned for further details. In the meantime, we encourage you to express your concerns by contacting Sunshine Coast Councillors or Mayor Jamieson. Thankyou.
