Defer the review of Facilitated Communication until ISAAC members have been consulted.

Dear Mr. Smith,

Please defer the review of FC being carried out by an FC position statement committee until ISAAC members have been consulted on the way in which it should be carried out.

Why is this important?

There are many members of ISAAC who are concerned about the narrow focus of the guidelines. If the review proceeds as currently proposed the data is likely to be skewed and could lead to an outcome that is biased. ISAAC need to look at FC in a number of ways including testimony, case studies and research that goes beyond authorship. A position statement by ISAAC that rests on such a weak platform, as per the current guidelines, would be flawed and could negatively impact on the communication options of many hundreds perhaps even thousands of disabled people who rely on Augmentative and Alternative Communication.
