Bring back live music to the Sydney CBD

Bring back live music to the Sydney CBD

The Petition of the citizens of New South Wales brings to the attention of the House that the recent laws passed to impose lock-outs to patrons have an additional exception. It is proposed that venues that provide live music on the night will be permitted to allow entry after 01:30 and stay open after 03:00

Why is this important?

Sydney in the 70s and 80s was the music hub of the world due to a thriving live music scene. Bands like AC/DC, INXS, The Church, Mentals and many others developed their styles and produced fantastic music because they had venues to perform at. Then stages disappeared and were replaced by poker machines. Sydney CBD has 143 live music venues that are struggling under the new laws. The law should allow CBD venues to be exempt from the lock-out laws if they have live bands playing. This will be a benefit for the patrons and provide continuing or additional employment and opportunity to Sydney's musicians.
