Ban brown coal mining in Australia

Ban brown coal mining in Australia

Dear Sirs,
I am petitioning you to immediately ban the mining of brown coal in Australia in favour of the higher thermal efficiency and lower greenhouse gas producing black coal from Queensland.

Why is this important?

Brown coal creates more pollution than other fuels such as black coal, natural gas and much more than clean renewable energy, making Victorians among the most greenhouse polluting people per capita on the planet (Victoria EPA website).
Australia's greenhouse gas emissions from brown coal can be reduced dramatically and in a much shorter time frame than through the implementation of renewable energy by ceasing the use of brown coal and instead using black coal from Queensland.

Reasons for signing

  • I can't believe Australia still mines brown coal!!! Where is it burnt please?
  • Most of the green movement in Australia is concentrated in Victoria, where the most inefficient of all our fossil fuels accounts for around 80% of its energy supply. The hypocrisy of Victorian Greens is astounding, at least to anyone with a modicum of rational thought.
