• NSW Workers Compensation Amendment Act 2012
All injured workers in NSW, past, present and future are now subject to the most evil injury law. The NSW Gov't has taken away your right to diagnosis, medical care, treatment, rehab and legal advice. Any injury advised to WorkCover will be assigned a case manager of an insurance co. This case manager, often 17 years old, and about to be calling you from India, will have absolute discretion. Their decisions are binding. WorkCover will decide if you can have free legal advice, where you will be assigned 1 of only 250 lawyers left in the scheme. Otherwise you will have to pay. Any appeal about your capacity to work, must be taken to the Supreme Court, at your own cost. You will be dumped on the dole and medicare. Business will not employ you because you have been injured. ISN has met with the NSW Business Chamber, as well as regional chambers, and confirmed. We call on the people of NSW to assist in this urgent campaign. We ask that you visit, email, facebook, twitter and/or phone your State MP, WorkCover, Insurer, Centrelink, Business chamber , Union, GP, employer, colleagues, family and friends. Ask if they know of these amendments. Anything would be helpful. Everyone in NSW is affected by this legislation. Families are breaking up, people are living in cars, all because they went to work and were injured. Homelessness and suicide in NSW is about to rise rapidly. This is a statewide call to assist. Please encourage as many as possible to sign our petition and visit www.isninc.com.au for more info.

  • No Maccas in the Hills
The building site is on a corner in small local strip-shopping area opposite a Primary school, where the highway narrows to one lane. Golden Arches will appear at the highway entrance to the Dandenongs, and gone, due to the economic giant, will be our loved bakery, local coffee shop, and the small stores that depend on the local thro traffic. What message does this send to school children, fries with everything? Maccas lost out in Belgrave, let's stop them again.

  • Re-Instate dedicated drug & alcohol rehab services run by and for Indigenous people in SA
In February 2012 the Federal Department of Health & Ageing withdrew funding from the Kalparrin Rehab Centre in Murray Bridge. This leaves South Australia with no dedicated drug & alcohol service for Indigenous people in South Australia. Commitments to providing a replacement service with no time frame attached is not acceptable. It is hard to understand how, despite a National Apology and constant discourse about reconciliation, "closing the gap", and respecting and empowering Indigenous Australians, they would be left without these essential and culturally appropriate services. We urge the Federal Government to do the right thing, by reinstating funding for this crucial community service and to ensure that it is planned and implemented with proper consultation with Indigenous people and service providers. • Bring Democracy Back to Local Councils
My personal experience is that local councils are often out of control and behaving as though they are answerable to no-one. In the practice of such dysfunctional councils, it is the administrators (CEO and executive) that run things as they see fit, sometimes bullying citizens who try to hold them to account: even using council funds liberally to silence dissent with legal action. Such an environment makes major corruption almost inevitable. Constitutional protection is needed to allow citizens to participate in local government without fear or favour. Councillors themselves have little real power to stop this kind of behaviour. They are forbidden from directing council administration (on the face of it, a reasonable convention), but when it comes to matters of governance like upholding truthful and fair dealings with citizens, they can be cowed into backing off by unscrupulous administrators who convince them that every matter is one of administration. Recent dilution of powers of councillors by the Baillieu government through their changes to the Victorian local government act will only worsen the problem. Such dark behaviours are begotten not of malice or “evil” but of the simple stresses of everyday life. They begin when overworked administrators force their tasks to completion by abuse of power, not because they seek to hurt citizens but simply to avoid “failure” in a system that is fault intolerant. These behaviours can swiftly escalate to coverup; again the need for coverup springs from a fault intolerant, overstressed system whenever there is a lack of answerability for one’s deeds. You the reader, I the writer and actual administrators all are overwhelmingly likely to follow this path. We are all women and men with feet of clay. The central idea of good governance is that we acknowledge our feet of clay, and define behavioural guidelines to follow when stressful times come along with instincts to behave defensively. We CAN be both imperfect, and still have honest, vibrant government systems. Genuine good governance is not about retribution, it is about acknowledgment of shortcomings as individuals, the need to look after each other in gathering the courage to behave honourably as a group and building environments where faults become simply problems to be solved as a community. The dark alternative is that faults become deadly threats that must be withstood at all costs, sometimes even where these costs are a stooping to antisocial or criminal behaviour. This is why openness and answerability to common people is vital, in the literal meaning of this word. A constitutional definiton of the roles of elected councillors together with a clear edict that it is the administration of councils that shall be subordinate and answerable to elected representatives would improve local government democracy a great deal. Its casting in the constitution would give the position of councillor a weight that would: 1. Help get rid of the councillor who simply sees a controversy-free period in local government as a success at being a politician with “training wheels” that will earn him or her preselection by their party for “higher” levels of government, rather than as a solemn and deeply meaningful community service in itself; 2. Help overcome the instinct to flee and coverup by appeal to another of our deep instincts: that to be a social animal and behave towards others as one would ask of the behaviour of others towards oneself. Democratic Victorian local government was destroyed by the coming of the Kennett era commissioners then sham councillor positions with little power to be other than puppets. Constitutional recognition of councillors would still let state government run local government, but would ensure that local government democracy could never again be swept aside without the assent of the people.

  • Stop the establishment of a US Marine military base in Darwin
During Barack Obamas visit to Australia in 2011 it was announced that a US military presence with 2,000 American Marines would be on rotation permanently in Darwin. This means that Australia would have a foreign powers military stationed here. The presence of the US in Australia according to many experts including Malcolm Fraser, Professor Tony Milner AM, and Professor Richard Tanter would be dangerous as any conflict between the US and other countries would then include Australia.

  • Save Peregian Originals
Peregian Originals is an open air community event that celebrates original live music and brings the Sunshine Coast community together. These events are held on 1st and 3rd Sundays in the park located between the Peregian Surf Club and the beach. PEREGIAN ORIGINALS IS CURRENTLY UNDER DIRECT ATTACK FROM SUNSHINE COAST COUNCIL. YOUR COUNCIL HAS TOTALLY IGNORED YOUR HUGE EFFORT TO EXPRESS THE IMPORTANCE OF PRESERVING PEREGIAN ORIGINALS. Once again – for the 4th time! – COUNCIL IS ACTIVELY MOVING TO DISMANTLE OUR EVENT. On August 23rd, their stated agenda is to ‘cut our event in half’. COUNCIL HAS REFUSED TO ISSUE OUR (12 YEARS RUNNING) ANNUAL PERMIT TO RUN 24 CONCERTS PER YEAR. Peregian Originals will not grow healthily, will not survive, will end, under Council’s unjust directive. Our East Coast Originals President, Anita Sweeney, has gone to great lengths to make this, and so much more, very clear to Council. We have risen to meet all the extensive compliance regulations; Anita has submitted an 87 page Business Plan, as requested and pressed for by Council. And very recently, you THE PEOPLE have made yourselves very clear: WE WANT PEREGIAN ORIGINALS TO REMAIN, PRESERVED AS IS – WE CANNOT AND WILL NOT ACCEPT OUR COMMUNITY EVENT BEING ‘CUT IN HALF’, REDUCED TO 12 EVENTS PER YEAR. Council has totally ignored Anita, as they have the vast vast majority of citizens on the coast. You all expressed yourselves so beautifully, emphatically in support of one of the best community events on the continent. We feel Council’s behaviour here is entirely unacceptable.

  • Facebook to change their rules to PAGES, CAUSES and GROUPS being created.
We need Facebook to change their rules to PAGES, CAUSES and GROUPS etc being created. It is way too easy for someone to create a Hate page. Some pages on Facebook are disgraceful. There is a constant reminder on TV about Internet Bullying and how many people these days kill themselves due to Internet bullying. Pages like "Abo Memes" "Dead baby Jokes" "Adalia Rose is Ugly" the list go on and on. They are a constant reminder of how much hatred there is in the world…. Mark Elliot Zuckerberg , if you are this intelligent to create Facebook and are for ever changing how Facebook looks. How about putting some common sense into it and making these PAGES, CAUSES and GROUPS etc go through some sought of approval before it is out there for the world to see. Instead of it taking 1000's of people to report a page to get shut down. PLEASE GET THE WORD OUT THERE.

  • REPLACE All TOXIC WOODY WEEDS!!
Because:- 1. These Programmes are 50 years overdue (e.g. my late Mother showed and told-me in 1954 at North Ryde in Sydney, how the Broad-Leaved Privets overtook' Buffalo Creek!);officially 9 Privet-Ligustrum sp. are here inAustralia, of which 3 species are already 'geographicallly invasive', and could well be (also) hybridising, to become 'worse'; 2. Because the NSW State Government has been too-corrupt for too long, and some 'certain ethics' need to be re-injected back-into 'the system' here (and in Qld as well, post-Fitzgerald Enquiry and the proven 'rampant-corruption' there, of years ago- that still lingers in that state's (2012) Sustainable Planning Act - a typo' QLD Act of Parliament , which Act makes 'no mention'whatsoever of the/our remnant natural 'Environment'.!!!! 3. Because the federal and state boffins that 'call the shots'on what they perceive is the country's 'worst weeds' DO NOT as a general Rule take-into-account a plant's known TOXICITY, nor the number of toxins known to exist/be manufactured in a/ny exotic plant species, let alone whether or not any or all of those toxins are 'made' in order to kill fauna that eats their fruit etc, OR whether or not 'cumulative toxicity' is/can be expected, on the basis of veterinary knowledge in international scientific literature 4. Because local Councils across-the-country ARE NOT Taking 'Noxious Weeds' at all seriously, and that many/most Councils' have followed Byron Shire/Gold Coast Shire 'down the tube' by no longer recognising if a 'Declared Plant' is also 'Noxious' anywhere else; and hence, a 'blinkered approach' has evolved(culturally-speaking), with lovey-dovey pictures of all the 'Environmental Weeds' being placed-onto their websites, with beaut' colour pics' of all of the pest plants in-flower(lots of colour'), but 'ZERO INFO' about 'any Caution' for humans or wildlife-lovers as to whether the plants have toxic fruit, toxic bark, toxic leaves, or are seasonally toxic, have 7 or more toxins(e.g. Camphor laurels, Privets),or whether/what wildlife species are 'most at risk'; in brief, none-of any-of-that! Scientific facts have been relegated in-favour of nice-looking websites etc and (5) Councils have been tardy or not-recognising State Law/s that require Councils to prepare profesisonally-challenged' Weed Species Management Plans as part and parcel of the Shire 'Bushland Proetction Scheme/s'; Councils need to move-on-this! • Change 30 Minute Parking Spots into Residential Parking on Little Eveleigh Street
Recently, two residential parking spaces have been converted to bicycle parking, forcing residents to park in the vacant 30 Minute spaces or streets away. There has been no attempt to replace these necessary spaces. Four new babies have been born to families living on the street in the last two years, please consider these families and the lack the parking available to them, especially.

  • Application for the premises at 34a Howard Avenue, Dee Why
On our Northern Beaches in Sydney there are some amazing services, however, there is not 1 service that is set up to cater ONLY for the Single Mums. SMS LIGHTHOUSE, Single Mums Support is a service who has a vision to set up a centre where mums can come to receive hand in hand support. A place where they are loved and not Judged A place where they can get genuine practical help. eg bread/clothes/furniture A place that will advocate and mediate on their behalf A place where they can be educated and taught strategies on how to get on with life as a single parent, letting go of victim mentality A place where they can get assistance with admin and document writing A place where they can get a hand up not just a hand out A place where they can make friends and connect with other mums who understand their hardships A beautiful place where they can just come for a coffee and a break while their children play in the back yard or the toy room. This, SINGLE MUMS SUPPORT, is a service that makes welcome any single mum. Isolation is a word that does not exist within SMS. The current stats within the Warringah Shire is that 12.2% of the family composition are Single Parents. Of this percentage 80.8% are female.
