• Fair Go For Students
Our COVID Wish List for Kids: Simple and practical solutions are needed. 1. Mandate Masks. As we learn to live with COVID governments could try to firstly mandate masks across the whole population e.g. when outside and when you can’t socially distance, like other countries in our region, and see the impact that has before cancelling anything to do with kids and school. Other countries are doing that and it’s working. Kids in other countries are living life in a fairly usual way, going to events, hosting sports, visiting family etc. Simple. #wearamask 2. Border closures. For ALL the families who have children attending schools (day and boarding school) who have to cross a border (eg. live in NSW go to school in VIC) each day, weekly or at the end of term (boarders) for their school holidays Government must find workable solves so they can see their families and not be locked up for the duration. This also includes Australians who live overseas for work (expatriates) and whose children are educated in Australia. These families seek an urgent solution. They cannot manage (afford) quarantine, nor up to a month of quarantine every time they wish to see their kids. Many are coming back from countries where the virus/community transmission is more under control than Australia. Like other nations there could be a safe list of nations for whom either Stay at Home quarantine notices are issued for 7 days (see the Singapore example for Australians), or where COVID tests are given and cleared for countries with very limited/zero cases. Also, putting an unaccompanied minor into a hotel to quarantine is unreasonable. The wellbeing of the child is not being considered and families should NOT be separated. If they must should quarantine at home. Parents need to see their children and children need to be able to attend their schools. Green lane travel bubbles for such families, across domestic and international borders, as are currently happening in other nations in our region and in Europe must be considered and implemented as matter of urgency with holidays just weeks away. #loveourfuture 3. Class of 2020. PLEASE support all our Year 12's (the “COVID Class of 2020”). This year is to their "rite of passage". Governments have made unreasonable decisions - no graduation with parents, no formals, cancelled sports, cancelled assemblies, the list goes on and on and this is on top of students struggling from isolation, pressures of whether exams will go ahead etc., disappointments and increase in the numbers of suicides, depression and anxiety. So many are devastated by these decisions. Governments have taken steps to ensure adults can attend restaurants, pubs, sporting matches etc and the same opportunities should be afforded to our kids. It’s up to governments to find solutions that allow Australian kids to have rights too. #COVIDclassof2020 4. General School Events for all kids: If governments won’t be satisfied with #wearamask for school events then for example before any event at the school each parent could have a COVID test 2 days prior the event. If negative they can attend wearing a mask and social distance. If positive they watch it from their lounge room. For parents and kids wishing to attend such events please introduce a solution e.g. every parent has to have a COVID test prior to the event. School Formals - the same applies as above. Each student is tested and if negative attends wearing a mask! These children should be able to have a school formal. These are just some ideas to get the debate started. Right now, like most other nations globally, we need to learn to live with COVID and give our kids the best future possible –they are the future of Australia. We cannot leave them behind… #covidgeneration #loveourfuture

  • Gippsland says save the ABC!
The ABC keeps our country safe in times of crisis - whether bushfire or pandemic. It helps us stay informed with stories we can trust. It holds truth to power at a time when misinformation is on the rise. It engages our children across the country. Locals from Sale to Mallacoota grew up with the ABC and depend on it daily, so it’s hard to imagine our lives without it. But years of budget cuts are pushing it to breaking point. A massive $783 million will have been cut from the ABC’s budget over the period between 2014-2022, with some 250 jobs cut and programmes axed just this year.* The October Budget is a crucial moment for the ABC. Reports in the media are suggesting further cuts are to be expected, pushing the ABC’s future into even more doubt. We need to act now to save the ABC we love and rely on, before it’s too late. * 'ABC loses $783m funding since 2014 when Coalition made its first cuts – report', The Guardian, 4 May 2020

  • Banksia's Gardiner Park doesn't need Fake Grass
Gardiner Park is small in comparison to other playing fields in the Bayside area. The park is being overused by the local soccer team and the grass is damaged. A magical $10million was gifted from NSW Government to build synthetic fields at Arncliffe and Gardiner Parks. There are no plans and no consultation. The cricket team were ignored and so are the local residents. Sign this to stop work starting in Mid August 2020.

  • Don’t take away phones from people seeking asylum!
In the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, Peter Dutton is trying to sneak through legislation that would give Australian Border Force (ABF) officers the power to confiscate the phones of people seeking asylum and refugees being held in detention. The National Justice Project stopped Dutton from doing this before. They took him to court for taking phones from people seeking asylum and refugees back in 2017 and we won. He tried to introduce this law back then to overcome our Court win and failed, so now, while we’re all distracted by COVID-19, he’s trying again. Mobile phones provide people seeking asylum and refugees with a lifeline to the outside world, to loved ones and to advocates – their mental health, the protection of their human rights, and their families depend on their phones. The proposed legislation gives ABF the power to effectively SILENCE and PUNISH innocent men, women and children who have not been convicted of any wrongdoing by cutting off their ability to stay in touch with family, lawyers and advocates. Mobile phones can also hold Dutton accountable – they can record instances of mistreatment and cruelty. On Manus Island, Behrouz Boochani wrote an entire book via WhatsApp, exposing the cruel reality of our offshore detention regime. The family from Biloela, currently on Christmas Island, used their phone to raise the alarm when Peter Dutton forced them onto a plane. It was a mobile phone that captured the shocking footage of little Tharunicaa screaming as her mother was dragged onto the plane by ABF officers. It’s no wonder that Peter Dutton wants to give his ABF officers the power to snatch the phones out of the hands of people seeking asylum and refugees. He will do anything to break the spirits of these people and deprive them of their voices. We are up against a Government that will oppose human rights at every turn and prefer silencing their critics rather than taking responsibility for harm done to innocent people. If this law is passed, it can be used to threaten, intimidate and harass people seeking asylum and refugees. Please, sign and share this petition and help us keep asylum seekers and refugees connected to the outside world. #DialitDownDutton Please note this is a parallel petition. • Bayside Residents for Peaceful Streets
Residents in the Bayside area are tired of the unnecessary revving and backfiring of motor vehicles, drag races, speeding and other dangerous vehicle activity. It makes our streets unsafe for other drivers, pedestrians and cyclists. It creates noise pollution, making Brighton Le Sands shopping district unpleasant to be in, and negatively effects people's sleep in the area. We want our community to be a peaceful and calm environment. We want the Bayside Council to work with St George Police to better enforce Road Rule 291, requiring that a person must not start a vehicle or drive in a way that makes unnecessary noise or smoke. We also support the Council and Police exploring other options for reducing these ongoing disturbances.

  • AUSTRALIA SAYS 'NO' TO RECOGNITION SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS.
The installation of these cameras without the consent of the Australian public is a breach of Governmental power and a serious violation of our human rights to privacy. Being tracked, analysed and our personal data being stored in a cloud for the access of authorities to use as they will, is not only an attack on our human rights to privacy and freedom, but it is also a direct attack on the human psyche and human mental health. The citizens of Australia have never authorised the use of our taxpayer dollars to fund “facial recognition technology” to be used against us and our children as a biometric data collection for physical and behavioural identification. We do not call for a prison system society where everyone is examined and where our privacy is invaded while we go about our day. Australia SAYS 'NO'- We DO NOT CONSENT to 'Face Recognition Surveillance Cameras' in our schools and our society'.

  • Stand up for our ABC!
“A rigorous broadcaster that pursues the truth, asks telling questions, substantiates its positions, and genuinely cares about local communities is an essential foundation of a healthy democracy" - Ed, an Eden-Monaro voter from Akolele The ABC was there for Eden-Monaro during the bushfires, delivering critical emergency broadcasts, saving lives and keeping our communities connected. The ABC was there for us before and after too — helping us stay informed with stories we can trust and holding truth to power at a time when misinformation is on the rise. It enriches our children's lives. Many Eden-Monaro locals grew up with the ABC and it’s hard to imagine our lives without it. But years of budget cuts are pushing it to breaking point with more programmes facing cancellation and hundreds of job losses to come. By 2022, $783 million of funding will have been cut from the ABC since 2014. We need to act now, before it’s too late. The ABC is the most trusted news source in the country. We love our ABC. This is why we are asking our future representative to commit to championing it.

  • Save Victoria's food bowl and Gippsland Lakes.
The Lindenow Valley vegetable growing area only 500m downwind from a proposed mineral sands mine in Glenaladale (near Bairnsdale). We want the Australia to know that the area where their veggies are grown is under threat from this mine, that is being proposed in an already severely drought and fire effected area, and traumatised community. If this mine proceeds it is highly likely their veggies will be contaminated from radioactive and highly toxic substances, as well as putting at risk up to 1,500 jobs. If the more than 4GL of water that will be needed by the mine for processing and dust suppression was redirected to growing vegetables, five times more jobs would be created than the 197 jobs the mine proposes to create. 82% of the directly impacted landholders said, in response to a survey question, that they want their land mineral sands mining free. Kalbar is an investment company not a mining company. They propose to dig up 1600 hectares of farm land above subterranean water courses to reach ancient sand dunes 45 metres down which contain a spectrum of useful but toxic and or nuisance chemicals including Zircon, Rutile, or Titanium Metals with traces of Thorium in the region of the RAMSAR listed Gippsland Lakes. The company proposes to create ten pits from which heavy mineral ore will be extracted and processed on site before transport by road to a port in Gippsland where it will be loaded on to ships for Worldwide distribution. The mining company, or another entity that may buy the mining lease from Kalbar if approval is granted by the Victorian Government, will not be obliged to restore the properties to the state they were in prior to mining commencing. In this conflict, the farmers and some of the landholders of Lindenow, point out that their properties are watered from under the ground by aquifers that fill a chain on ponds even in times of drought. They believe that those water sources are below the surface of the land and above the ore body that will be extracted by open mining techniques. They contend that if approved, the mine will destroy the water courses making restoration of their properties impossible. In addition the East Gippsland region was recently severely impacted by drought and then bushfire and we cannot afford this blatant destruction of our already damaged and fragile environment. - A recent Queensland 2018 mine that did not have the financial capacity to restore hundreds of square kilometres of land following a disastrous mining venture.

  • The Inner West Needs More Recycling!
With more people working from home than ever, it has become clear that our communities are in desperate need of more recycling pickups. Inner West Council is already behind on this – City of Sydney Council has been doing weekly recycling pickups for a while now. This is not good enough from our council that claims to have environmental credentials. We've heard stories from people who have been putting recycling in their general waste, and this has been a particular problem for the many share houses in the area. As one person said, "this is no way to live." An added benefit is that this will create jobs for many waste collectors and sanitation engineers. Many people in this industry worked in commercial waste collection, which has seen a decline due to less people working in offices due to the pandemic. Sign this petition and tell the Inner West Council that enough is enough – for the environment and for our homes, we need more recycling pickups!

  • Don't return to face-to-face learning in ACT Schools on 18 May
Once face-to-face learning becomes the focus again, we will no longer have the option to keep our children and families safe, as online learning will not be supported. As a parent who shares their children with an estranged partner I do not have the option to permanently homeschool, as their father would not agree to such an arrangement - therefore, once education returns to school campuses I will have no other option than to send them into what I consider a high-risk setting.

  • #australianpipelinesprojectwateronly
Important for future generations. to the Pm of Australian and all states our water supply is in crisis and action is required now! as this can greatly reduce unemployment numbers and also provide a sound future for crops and livestock whilst expanding to areas once we're unable to produce more from our lands, this is a major infrastructure program that will go over a short period of time and will be built by Australian owned companies along with Australian people to gain financial benefit and future prosperity this is a no brainer. act on this now.!! My name is (Edward cruckshank) and I am here today to explain my plans to you, and hope you really take note at how my projects can / will fix a lot of problems we face today! my projects will need all states and All states need to agree, all states. Australia wide. as will all countries! if we're to expand! worldwide projects were people win. My proposal will change all life for the beter, drought eliminated famin reduced roads to travel and homes to come home to real leadership. fyi. Dot points. Ocean, pipelines, desalination plants, pumps solar etc multiple times multiple states multiple country's These are all achievable and cost afective and can save all life all around the globe! #australianpipelinesprojectwateronly How we / I would go about doing it. Firstly we make channels in all states Australia wide from the ocean, in All states we also have settling dams, we than close it of, once full, we let the water sit for a week or so to help the seperating of salt. We then have pipelines attached to said dams all stretching out to the most dryest parts and rivers of Australia. Along these said pipelines we also build small scale desalination plants every 100 KMs so as we push the water it will pass through moltable stations, gives moltable chances we than also attache solar farms and wind turbines to help the running of plants.  We than also attache the pumps in areas were the landscape is normally to hard for water to flow in return helping the water to flow all the while using the landscape to our advantage. By achieveing this we create jobs , communitys and farms were once no one could live. The economy will triple and less than five years to do all this once all states back it and all states start. Implemented once only now and guarantee prosperity for all life. We know this will and can work.  We know this is the only plan to implement.  1. Food 2. water, 3 home My plan will give us this on realms never achieved.  World watcher ( Game changer) Regards Edward cruckshank
