HELP STOP TICKET SCALPING IN AUSTRALIA *** GOVERNMENT (Federal/State/Local): *** • Implement clear nation-wide legislation across Australia that prohibits ticket scalping in person and online for all tickets to any show/performance/event. • Create legislation that does not allow tickets to be bundled with another item or other items and sold at exorbitant prices because of the demand for the tickets. *** EBAY / ONLINE AUCTION SITES: *** Suggestions you could implement to help prevent/stop ticket scalping: • Actually remove reported listings of tickets being scalped; • Actually use your warning system you mentioned in a Herald Sun article on 20Sep2010 to find and remove tickets being scalped; • Issue warnings to sellers ticket scalping and cancel account if persists; • Add compulsory fields to ‘Event Tickets’ such as: o Ticket Face Value (excludes postage, fees, insurance); o Ticket Type (GA/Gold/Silver/VIP); o Ticket Agent (as Terms & Conditions apply); o Venue; o Number of tickets; o Section; o Row; o Seat. • Only permit Buy It Now (BIN, not Auction) Listings for Tickets and prevent BIN price exceeding Ticket Face Value; • Add a popup showing selling above Face Value breaches eBays Policy and Ticket Agency/Promoter Terms & Conditions (not just for QLD); • Help lobby for Nation-Wide anti-scalping legislation in Australia, eg: share this on your website, facebook page & twitter: Plz Help Stop Ticket Scalpers - sign+share ONLINE PETITION www.communityrun.org/petitions/help-stop-ticket-scalping-in-australia *** GUMTREE: *** Suggestions you could implement to help prevent/stop ticket scalping: • Remove reported listings of tickets being scalped; • Issue warnings to sellers ticket scalping and cancel account if persists; • Add compulsory fields to ‘Event Tickets’ such as: o Ticket Face Value (excludes postage, fees, insurance); o Ticket Type (GA/Gold/Silver/VIP); o Ticket Agent (as Terms & Conditions apply); o Venue; o Number of tickets; o Section; o Row; o Seat. • Only permit Buy It Now (BIN, not Auction) Listings for Tickets and prevent BIN price exceeding Ticket Face Value; • Add a popup showing selling above Face Value breaches Ticket Agency/Promoter Terms & Conditions and is illegal in some cases; • Help lobby for Nation-Wide anti-scalping legislation in Australia, eg: share this on your website, facebook page & twitter: Plz Help Stop Ticket Scalpers - sign+share ONLINE PETITION www.communityrun.org/petitions/help-stop-ticket-scalping-in-australia *** TICKET AGENCIES (TICKETEK,TICKETMASTER,etc) / PROMOTERS (LIVENATION,etc): *** Suggestions you could implement to help prevent/stop ticket scalping: • Print on back of tickets not to be sold for a profit; • Scan for multiple purchases using one or a combination of same account numbers, account names, and credit cards; • Monitor IP addresses during sale to see if multiple transactions are being processed from the same IP address; • Prevent ticket purchases for events when buyer is from another state; • Use extra security to verify it is a real person, not a computer program, buying the tickets; • Delay ticket delivery until closer to the event as a deterrent for patrons looking to buy from scalpers; • Use electronic ticketing with a barcode to be scanned at the event; • Require the credit card used in the purchase be presented at events, OR name of giftee printed on the ticket if it's a gift and show ID (drivers lic, passport, credit card, medicare card, Proof of Age/ID card); • Stagger release of tickets to encourage people to wait and buy from authorised sellers; • Stagger release of tickets for each venue instead of selling all tickets to all venues at the same time; • Increase timeout so people who are slow using computers can pay for their tickets before they loose them due to the timeout; • Send a legal request to eBay to request removal of tickets being scalped; • Require names (and possibly Date of Births) be printed on tickets and checked against ID at events; • Help lobby for Nation-Wide anti-scalping legislation in Australia, eg: share this on your website, facebook page & twitter: Plz Help Stop Ticket Scalpers - sign+share ONLINE PETITION www.communityrun.org/petitions/help-stop-ticket-scalping-in-australia *** GENERAL PUBLIC / FANS: *** Suggestions on how you can help prevent/stop ticket scalping: • DON’T buy from ticket scalpers, if there’s no demand, there’ll be no supply. • Report ticket scalper listings you find on eBay/Gumtree/Facebook/etc. • Help lobby for Nation-Wide anti-scalping legislation in Australia, eg: share this on your website, facebook page & twitter: Plz Help Stop Ticket Scalpers - sign+share ONLINE PETITION www.communityrun.org/petitions/help-stop-ticket-scalping-in-australia
Why is this important?
Genuine fans are missing out on tickets to see their favourite artists/athletes at Concerts/Sporting Events due to Ticket Scalpers buying lots of tickets & selling them at hugely inflated prices, well above ticket face value (Tickets Face Value excludes postage, fees, insurance). Nation-wide Anti-Scalping Legislation is required, similar to QLD Government: www.stadiums.qld.gov.au/Policies/Ticket-Scalping.aspx *** EXTRA INFORMATION: *** http://stopticketscalpingaustralia.wordpress.com/ • Stop Ticket Scalping in Australia: Resources, blog, emails to/from relevant parties, etc... www.heraldsun.com.au/afl/more-news/scalpers-face-wrath-of-law-for-selling-afl-grand-final-tickets/story-e6frf9jf-1225926445603 • The site (eBay) will hand over the personal details of scalpers if they are caught trying to sell tickets at inflated prices. A warning system programmed to recognise key words and phrases will help snare offenders, who could face fines of up to $35,000. • "If Victoria Police request the information, we will make it available," eBay spokesman Daniel Feiler said. • Tickets can still be legally sold on auction sites provided they are available at cost price. www.brisbanetimes.com.au/queensland/simon--garfunkel-ebay-scalpers-make-mockery-of-laws-20090424-ahmp.html • Cr Tully said eBay should pre-program the maximum allowable price for tickets, which would enable its computer system to automatically reject advertisements where the prices contravened the maximum legal re-sale price. • Cr Tully called on eBay to tighten its controls over illegal adverting on its website which is the largest online store in the world. www.couriermail.com.au/entertainment/celebrity/scalpers-fleece-one-directiion-fans/story-e6freq7o-1226326677654 • "(eBay) always say how they will work with the police ... but they are doing nothing. They are facilitating breaches of the law." • In Queensland, it is illegal to buy event tickets and resell them for more than a 10 per cent profit, with large fines for the scalper and the buyer. • Spokesman for eBay Daniel Feiler said the site would not be shutting down the auctions unless there was a formal request from police. www.theage.com.au/entertainment/music/radiohead-promoter-calls-for-scalping-laws-20120302-1u8ql.html#ixzz2AqC6TZKg • lack of cohesive regulation • "The federal government should be bringing in a blanket policy but the state governments also need to act," Chugg told AAP. • There is support in the Australian music industry for regulation on scalping, including Chugg's former business partner and Mushroom Group CEO Michael Gudinski. www.theage.com.au/national/call-for-national-ban-on-scalping-20090711-dgrs.html#ixzz2AqD23tJI • Football Federation Australia, soccer's ruling body, says it is time to stamp out the practice that has become a significant problem for all sporting codes. • "We support the introduction of legislation that prohibits the practice of scalping because, as the governing body of the code, you don't like to see your fans being exploited," the federation's John O'Sullivan told The Sunday Age. • Cricket Australia's Peter Young said scalping needed to be stamped out. • National Rugby League's John Brady said the code supported a blanket ban on scalping. • Only Victoria and Queensland have anti-scalping laws, despite the public outcry every time scalpers are caught selling high-priced tickets on eBay to sold-out AFL games and other sporting events or concerts. www.newschannel5.com/story/20054869/documents-link-ticket-scalpers-to-ticketmaster • But never-published documents, uncovered by NewsChannel 5 Investigates, show the ticketing giant has been more deeply involved in the scalping industry than it's been willing to admit. • But, in February 2009, then-CEO Irving Azoff testified before Congress, downplaying the impact of the merger between the ticketing giant and event promoter Live Nation. • "I think what's fascinating about these documents is it shows you that Ticketmaster is feeding those scalpers," he said. www.perthnow.com.au/news/national/choice-reveals-the-shonkiest-of-shonky-products-for-2012/story-fndor8bb-1226506687615 • Shonky winner: Ticketek/Ticketmaster: Over-the-top fees whacked on when purchasing tickets. Additional fees include a $9.50 handling fee or $5.20 to receive an email ticket to print at home; $7.60 to pick up the ticket up from the venue; $5.60 to have the ticket sent via SMS; $11.10 to have the ticket sent via registered post, or $7.60 to have the ticket delivered by regular mail. Add a 1-3% credit card surcharge on top of that. Shonky outrage! Source: www.choice.com.au/reviews-and-tests/awards/shonky-awards/shonkys/the-2012-shonky-awards/page/ticketek-and-ticketmaster.aspx
